Our High-School Choice

I know I haven't posted in awhile but we decided to go with Ashworth college-highschool. curriculum. It was a good decision for us, as it was a reasonable cost and the curriculum seemed to fit what we were looking for. She has already started some of her lesson. The link is http://www.ashworthcollege.edu/. Check it out.

New Beginnings!

I will be doing more research on High-school Home-schools soon. I will post the schools that I come across and that I'm researching. Again this is just information to help with what's out there, not a final decision making site. My decision is based on my research and what I feel is right for us. PLEASE, use this only as information to help you in your search.

Going Good

I haven't posted in a while, but every things going pretty good. She's finishing up History and Math. She is moving on to High-school prep. I will say, you have to make a schedule and stick with it, because kids sure do try to get out of doing their work. She is funny sometimes and I have to make sure she's doing what I expect of her. But overall, this was the best choice for us.

Moving Along

Things have been going pretty good. Nisha is doing good in school. She moving along in her subjects well. She really only have 2 subjects left, history and math, so once she finishes those she's done with school. She works at her own pace and she only has to do school for a couple of hours a day. All in all, it's been going good.

My daughter is doing good with home-schooling. She's almost done actually. She has history and math to finish. The program allows her to work at her own pace, but I guess she's been working faster than I thought. Well these last 2 subjects will take a little longer. No problem with her being home everyday, just have to make sure she stick to a schedule and get things done. I'm glad we took this route.

Moving along

Home-schooling has been going pretty good. She logs on to her computer and log into the site and start working. She gets a grade right away. I check her grades everyday to see what she received and where she needs the work. It's a good program for us. She is enjoying it, although she sometimes have a problem with the reading, but there is no way around it, so she does it. :)

Good Start

We started home-schooling today. It went pretty good. She's learning the program so that takes a minute. But overall, it went well. We don't have a full day on Tue. & Thur. so that could be it. Mon. Wed. & Fri. are our long days. I wouldn't say long accept it's longer than Tue. & Thur. So I'll keep posting with how we are doing.

My Decision

Ok, I have decided to home-school my daughter. This is her last week of school and will start next week after the holiday. I've been doing the research and planning her schedule and calling the school that I decided to use as well as the highschool she will be attending next year if we decide to go that route. I'm satisfied with the research I've done and the answers that I've received and am ready to start, I hope. : )   It's something that I know is going to help her, but at the same time, I'm a little nervous about the whole thing. I will keep you posted as to how things are going. Pray for me. Seriously

By the way, I have chosen to use LinkOnLearning. It seems to be the right fit for us. If you are looking and want to see if it will be a good fit for you and your family, check it out at: linkonlearning.com. I also have a link to it in an earlier post.

My Decision

I have thought about it, fought about it and thought about it some more and we have come up with a solution. OK, to explain, the school my daughter was in, in chicago was not a good school. I'm quite sure many of you who know me have heard this before, but, the school had 6th, 7th and 8th graders all mixed in to one class and the teacher was supposed to teach each level of students. Now I don't know if you understand, but how in the world are you going to teach all these different levels in one class period and expect them to learn anything? I didn't get it and I don't think my daughter along with a lot of other students got anything either, but a lot of headaches and frustration. So now that we are in a different area and school district, the school is so much more advanced than where we came from, so it's sad to say, but my daughter is not catching on as quickly as should be. The teaching is so very different and much more focused than she had. Well, anyway, this leads me to our decision. We have decided to home-school her through 8th grade starting after this first quarter to see where she is in her understanding and what we need to work on. I've decided to use LinkOnLearning. I'll talk about this later, because I have said enough for now.

HANGING IN THERE

WELL,,, IT'S BEEN ABOUT 3 DAYS AND IT'S BEEN CHALLENGING. THEY ARE TRYING TO COME AROUND FROM THE WHINNING AND ACTING AS IF THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND, JUST SO THEY CAN THROW ME OFF AND I LOSE IT AND PUT THEM BACK IN SCHOOL. WELL,, I HAD TO STOP CRYING (LOL) AND TOUGHEN UP AND REMIND THEM I HAVE THE SAY SO... SO THEY'RE GETTING A LITTLE BETTER. MAYBE I SHOULDN'T SPEAK SO SOON, B/C NEXT WEEK IS AROUND THE CORNER AND I DREAD SEEING WHAT THIS WEEK IS GOING TO BRING. WELL,,,,,, I GUESS WE'LL SEE... KEEP YOU UPDATED!!! TIL THEN

Making A Decision

I have been thinking about home-schooling and started looking at the different curriculums that are on the net and well, it's a lot more than I've put here on this site. But as I've gone over and over them and looked at them in more depth, I think I like Link-On-Learning for myself. It's a little cheaper than the other ones here so far. Keep in mind that it only goes to the 8th grade, so if you have a high-schooler, you need to look at some of the other ones. Anyway, the curriculum is pretty good as well and the set up is eye catching, at least to young ones. I also like that they provide report cards on a regular basis. It's at the students own pace which a lot of them are. You may need to call quite a few different one's before you make the right decision for you and your family as there are so many out there just to get a feel for what's actually offered and what it entails. keep looking until you find the one that you like.

Homeschool Info.

I thought I would post what little I know about homeschooling and the different sites that are out there. If you know something about it or have something interesting to say about homeschooling feel free to leave your comment. This if information that we all can use. I will also post online homeschools that I have come across. This doesn't mean that I am saying join any particular school, but to look at and decide for yourself which one best fits you and your family. It's a lot out there, so look at each one you are interested in and examine and choose very carefully. Again, I am NOT choosing for you.
